Alec Baldwin Filming LIVE: Mickey Rourke Says ‘There’s No Way In Hell’ Baldwin Should Be Blamed For Rust’s Death: ‘Most Actors Don’t Know A Thing About Guns’
Alec Baldwin and gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will be charged with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, prosecutors in New Mexico announced Thursday, citing a “criminal disregard for safety.”
“You don’t actually have to touch every shell, every piece of ammunition,” Mary Carmack-Altwies, the district attorney in Santa Fe County, said after the decision was announced. “You have an absolute duty to know that whatever is in the weapon placed in your hand is safe.”
Baldwin and gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed face up to 18 months in prison if convicted of manslaughter. If they are also convicted of enhancing the use of firearms on that charge, they will face a mandatory five-year prison sentence.
Dave Halls, the assistant principal, pleaded guilty to one count of negligent use of a deadly weapon.
The charges are expected to be filed before the end of the month.
