Black Mass star Johnny Depp is confirmed, and Tom Hardy is in talks
Black Mass, a mafia movie starring Whitey Bulger, will undoubtedly include Johnny Depp. Although he was said to have left the project after being affiliated to it the previous year. When Scott Cooper was hired to helm it, he once again became intrigued, and now it’s official. In the film, Depp will play Bulger, while John Connolly, Bulger’s FBI handler, will be portrayed by Tom Hardy.The plot centres on the brutal Boston kingpin that served as the model for figures portrayed by Jack Nicholson in The Departed and Pete Postlewaite in The Town.The 2001 Dick Lehr/Gerald O’Neill New York Times book Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the Irish Mob and the FBI served as the inspiration for the film.Bulger was an FBI informant as well, which allowed him to assist in covertly eliminating a rival group. In the end, the Feds double crossed him and prosecuted him, along with his criminal associate and the original FBI agent who was working with him.
The Connelly is “FBI agent and Bulger and his brother’s boyhood friend. Assisting Connolly in his mission to bring down the Italian mafia was Bulger, who strengthened his status as Boston’s top criminal by eliminating Connolly’s rival Winter Hill gang.”
