British motorcyclist dies after falling down a 1,600ft gorge during a cycling tour along a remote Himalayan highway

A British tourist in India has died after a motorcycle accident on a remote Himalayan road saw him fall 1,600ft from the edge of a cliff into a gorge.
The as yet unidentified Briton embarked on a road trip as part of an eight-man motorbike tour to Kinnaur tribal district in Himachal Pradesh, India’s northernmost state and home to the Himalayan mountains.
The unfortunate tourist reportedly lost control of his motorcycle after hitting a rock on the road and swerving off the road while traveling on the NH-5 highway near Kashang Nala.
His motorcycle is said to have veered off course and struck a roadside barricade, catapulting him over the barrier and sending him plummeting some 1,600 feet to his death.

A member of the search and rescue team told Indian media that rescuers and local police from the town of Reckong Peo rappelled down the gorge and removed Barrett’s body.
His body was sent for an autopsy and later handed over to next of kin.
