A British pensioner has died after being pushed to the ground by intruders in his Spanish home.

The 81-year-old man was taken to hospital after being robbed by robbers in Estepa, near Seville, around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

He was examined and discharged, but later suffered complications and was taken back to the Merced de Osuna Hospital, where he died early this Wednesday morning.

Police confirmed that the victim, identified only by his initials AHB, was a British expatriate. Detectives are still looking for those responsible.

Officers responded to the incident around 7 p.m. Sunday and took the victim to the hospital. She died in the early hours of this Wednesday.

“No arrests have been made yet and we are still investigating.”

A police source added: “The victim told officers that he had been pushed by one of the intruders while trying to resist the robbery. He fell to the ground and was taken to the hospital and tragically died a few days later.

He did not make a formal statement to police before he died and officers are working on what he told police at the scene before he was admitted to hospital.

“Officers are still investigating whether anything was taken and that has been complicated by the fact that there is no formal statement and the victim was unable to give a detailed account of the incident to detectives before being hospitalized.”

The victim is understood to have been told he could go home hours after the robbery and died after being readmitted to hospital. Hospital chiefs have yet to comment.

Local reports say police are searching for three suspects, though detectives were unable to confirm the number today.

A council source said: ‘Local police came to the property on Sunday night at the request of the Guardia Civil following an emergency call.

They spoke to the British pensioner at the location, who told them that several individuals had entered his property with the intention of robbing him.

“He had a wound to his face, but nothing to suggest he had been beaten as initial reports on this incident suggested.”

He was taken to the hospital and went home a few hours after receiving treatment.

“About 24 hours later, local police were asked to go to the same property and found EMS assisting the same man. He was taken to the hospital and died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It is believed that an autopsy has already been carried out, but the results have not been made public, as is normal in Spain.

Estepa is a town and municipality in the southeast of the province of Seville. It is located north of the Sierra del Becerro.

In addition to being known for its production of Christmas sweets called mantecados, tourism is an important part of the local economy along with agriculture such as olive cultivation.
