City council sources confirmed late in the afternoon that the victim was a 57-year-old Scotsman, confirming earlier reports from local newspapers about his age and nationality.

The incident occurred near the Diagonal Mar shopping center (pictured) in Barcelona and near the Parc del Forum where the Pet Shop Boys performed on the opening night of the Primavera Sound 2023 music festival on Wednesday.
It was initially unclear if he had been among those attending the concert, although tram operators later told local press that it was heading in the opposite direction to that of people leaving the festival area.
A person accompanying him, whose age and nationality have not yet been revealed, was unharmed and was receiving psychological assistance today.
A police investigation was underway last night and the company that operates the tram service provided video footage to help investigators.
TRAM Barcelona said in a tweet today: “TRAM wishes to send its condolences to the family and friends of the man who died in last night’s tragedy.”
