A British man has died after he was pulled unconscious from the sea after he was on holiday in Greece.

The 64-year-old tourist was found by other tourists on the Alykanas beach in Zakynthos.

The incident took place on Friday around 9:15am local time (7:15am BST) with ambulance and coast guard workers rushing to the scene.

The man was taken to Zakynthos General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No lifeguards were reportedly present on the beach at the time of the incident.

The Zakynthos Port Authority is conducting a preliminary investigation.

Another incident took place on the Greek island of Crete last month after a 26-year-old was struck by lightning.

British paddleboarder Scott Seddon was filmed laughing and joking with a close friend as he emerged from the sea, just minutes before he was struck and killed by lightning.
