A Russian politician has launched an extraordinary attack on Vladimir Putin, calling for the despot to be removed from office and replaced during an appearance on state television.
Opposition politician Boris Nadezhdin, who has criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, told Russia’s NTV channel that the Russians must choose a different leader in the country’s 2024 elections.
“We have to elect someone else, and not Putin,” Nadezhdin said openly. Then everything will be fine.
It was the first time anyone had called for Putin to be replaced on Russian state-sanctioned television since the war began in February 2022, Britain’s Defense Ministry said.
Nadezhdin said that under Putin’s rule, “there is no way we will return to Europe.”

Opposition politician Boris Nadezhdin, who has criticized Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, told Russia’s NTV channel that the Russians must choose a different leader in the country’s 2024 elections.

Nadezhdin said that a different government would allow Russia to “build relations” with European countries and “everything will return to its place.”

It was the first time anyone had called for Putin (pictured Thursday) to be replaced on Russian state-sanctioned television since the war began in February 2022, Britain’s Defense Ministry said.
“We just have to choose different authorities to run the country who would stop this story with Ukraine,” he said on NTV, one of the three main state channels in Russia.
Nadezhdin said that a different government would allow Russia to “build relations” with European countries and “everything will return to its place.”
Putin’s propagandist and co-anchor Ivan Trushkin quickly tried to interrupt Nadezhdin by replying: “I was hoping you would say all this word for word.”
But undeterred, Nadezhdin said: ‘We have to choose someone else [in the 2024 presidential elections], and not Putin. Then everything will be fine.
While Putin’s propagandists have been openly critical of the state of Russia’s military and war efforts, they have refrained from condemning Putin, but Nadezhdin has done just that.
‘Nadezhdin has been a vocal critic of the war since the invasion [began]but it is highly likely that this will be the first call to replace Putin on Russian state-sanctioned television since it began,” the UK Ministry of Defense said in its latest intelligence report.
Nadezhin, a Moscow municipal deputy, is a regular on Russian state television and in January called the war a “nonsense situation”.
The former representative of the State Duma has also said in the past that it is “absolutely impossible to defeat Ukraine using the resources and methods of colonial warfare.” [Russia has]’.
And criticism of Putin’s war has risen in recent months, with British defense chiefs suggesting this could be due to Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin’s constant rants about the Russian leadership.
“Over the past 15 months, Russia has introduced limitations on freedom of expression that have not been seen since Soviet times,” the Defense Ministry said.
“However, there is a realistic possibility that recent scathing rhetoric from nationalist figures such as Wagner Group owner Yevgeny Prigozhin is encouraging opposition figures to challenge taboo topics.”
On Tuesday, Prigozhin unleashed an explosive tirade of abuse against Vladimir Putin’s cronies after Moscow was attacked by suspected Ukrainian kamikaze drones.

The head of Russia’s Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin (pictured May 5), today unleashed an explosive tirade of abuses against Vladimir Putin’s cronies.
In a furious 70-second tirade, Prigozhin yelled vulgar insults at Russia’s defense officials, describing them as “stinking scum” and “b*******.”
Wagner’s boss said he was “deeply outraged” by Putin’s troops doing “f*** everything” to prevent explosive drones from falling on the Russian capital this morning. Soon after, Putin claimed that Moscow’s air defense system was working “satisfactorily”.
Prigozhin, known for his foul-mouthed rants, who handed Bakhmut over to the Russian army last week, was translated as a shout: ‘Stinking garbage! What are you doing? Rise from the offices you have been placed in to protect this country.
You are the Ministry of Defense. You’ve done everything to move forward. Why the hell are you allowing these drones to fly to Moscow? Who cares that they fly to their homes in Rublyovka! Let your houses burn.’
‘And what are ordinary people to do when explosive drones crash into their windows? So, as a citizen, I am deeply outraged that this scum sits quietly with his butt smeared with expensive creams.
‘And that’s why I think people have every right to ask these questions, these bitches.
‘But I have already warned about this many times, but no one wants to listen. Because I’m angry and upset at the bureaucrats who have a great life.’
Its stunning collapse came after several buildings in wealthy Moscow suburbs were damaged by suspected Ukrainian kamikaze drones, just hours after Putin unleashed another barrage of attacks on Kiev.
