The Wall Street Journal recently published an intriguing article claiming that Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw stars Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Vin Diesel each have individual “fight contracts” to make sure that their characters come across as tough as possible during the movies’ various fight scenes.
In order to ensure that punishment was meted out equitably and that Dominic Toretto never found himself on the wrong end of a fight, the report claims that during Fast & Furious 7 rehearsals, Vin Diesel came up with a points system where numerical values were allocated to various punches and attacks.
Diesel’s points strategy is said to have been abandoned, not because it was absurd, but because it was difficult for the crew to manage during the action scenes.
While The Rock says that Luke Hobbs “always gives as good as he gets,” Statham has reportedly struck a deal with Universal Studios that limits the amount of on-screen punishment his character Deckard Shaw can endure.
According to a Universal representative, “[the battles] ensure] every character has their moment and that all are recognized as strong opponents.” We never forget that each Fast & Furious character is a hero to someone watching.

In the upcoming Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which is being directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2), Idris Elba (Luther), Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan), and Eiza Gonzalez will make their franchise debuts alongside returning cast members Dwayne Johnson (Luke Hobbs), Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw), and Helen Mirren ( (Baby Driver).
