I was stuck in a Vietnamese cable car at 6,000 feet for THREE HOURS

An intrepid traveler shared the horrifying moment he was trapped at 6,000 feet in one of the world’s highest cable cars for three hours.

Haris, an Australian who goes by the name “fully grown” on social media, shared the debacle on TikTok when he and a dozen other passengers were stuck midair in Vietnam.

Hanging over the sea, the adventurer, much more relaxed about the situation compared to the others around him, seemed to be trapped in the cable car of Mount Fansipan on the highest mountain on the Indochina peninsula.

The cable car typically offers a leisurely 15-minute ride through the stunning valleys below and surrounding peaks at around 6,233 feet (around 1,900 meters) above sea level.

But Haris and the other passengers got more than they bargained for, apparently spending nearly three hours in the air after the cable car’s apparent malfunction.

Despite being stuck in the air, the group saw stunning views of Mount Fasn.

We are in the highest cable car in the world and now we are trapped. We are stuck,” Haris told the camera as he filmed the incident for TikTok. While the Mount Fansipan cable car hangs more than 6,000 feet in the air, it’s not believed to be the highest, with a cable car in the upper reaches of Aigulle du Midi in Charmonix, France, at around 12,600 feet (3, 8 km) above sea level.

As Haris captured the stunning surroundings, somewhat less frightened than his fellow travelers, others can be heard explaining the incident.

‘We have to wait. We just wait,” a woman can be heard telling another passenger.

‘For how long?’ the passenger can be heard replying in an alarmed voice.

Meanwhile, still not too concerned about the incident and remaining jovial, Haris asked a woman sitting next to him: ‘Should we panic? Are you panicking?

‘Yes,’ she snaps back.

A Vietnamese-speaking voice can be heard over a tannoy presumably explaining the incident to those on board as they sit amongst the clouds. The alarmed hunters immediately responded to the tannoy while Haris remained relaxed.

Again, not seeming too concerned about the situation, Haris jokes to his fellow travelers, “That’s a good way to go, don’t you think?”

‘No, no,’ a host of voices yelled at her, sounding a little less amused for her laid-back nature.

‘No dark jokes now, okay?’ says a man.

Passengers were told to wait on the tanny

But Haris finds solace with another passenger named Ralph who agrees with him on the humor of the situation.

‘Do we have food? We have to evaluate our survival plan and ration it”, Haris jokes again.

Picturesque mountains and a cloud-filled blue sky surround the stationary and hanging cable car. “Well, this is not a bad place to die,” concludes the Australian as he looks out.

In another segment of the clip, Haris says, “Uh, I think I found the group that I would never want to be stuck on a cable car with.”

Evidently keeping the atmosphere light, the other passengers laugh as another voice is heard declaring: ‘Too late. Too late.

Speaking to the camera, Haris says: “We have other people here who are panicking.” It’s quite hot. I tried to help them by opening the windows and they cursed me,’ before giggling.

Suddenly, the cable car moves very slowly again and cheers ring out.

“Certainly the mood has improved and the thoughts are no longer thoughts,” says Haris.

Cheers scream when they start to move

Haris joked with the other passengers.

In a segment of the clip, Haris says, “Uh, I think I found the group that I would never want to be stuck in a cable car with.”

“After two and a half hours of connecting with these people, we are about to have our grounding moment in sight.”

Cheers scream as the green land below them becomes visible through the mist.

Returning to the station, Haris jokes with the attendant preparing to free them: ‘Open the damn door, man. Open it. Thanks thanks. Damn.

The attendants at the cable car station apologize profusely for the incident, but Haris is still evidently relaxed, telling them he’s fine despite the nearly three-hour adventure in the sky.
