Italy’s Incredible PINK Beach Threatened By Instagram-Loving Tourists

Fight to save Italy’s amazing PINK beach, which is being destroyed by Instagram-loving tourists who ignore the visitor ban to take selfies.

  • Pink Beach in Sardinia is considered one of the most beautiful in the world

A rare pink beach is under threat when the Italian coast guard tries to preserve it from Instagram-loving tourists.

Tourists have defied calls to stop swimming at Pink Beach and take pictures. The beach, considered one of the most beautiful in the world, is located on Budelli Island, off Sardinia.

The color of the sand comes from the shells of the Pink Miniacin microorganism that lives in the sea grass. When washed ashore, it mixes with the white sand and turns pink.

In 1980, a ban was introduced after visitors were caught stealing sand and seaweed, causing the color to fade.

Fabrizio Fonnesu, director of the Maddalena archipelago national park, said: “The beach is again in danger as people arrive by boat, climb up the beach and then post photos, allowing us to fine them up to €500.”

‘On two other beaches in the park, which can be visited, a number limit will be applied this summer.

“We expect 1,200 boats to visit the park every day this summer and too many people are shoveling sand to buy souvenirs, combining with increasingly violent storms to create erosion.”

Italy expects a large number of tourists this summer with 127 million domestic and foreign tourists visiting beaches and cities. The number is expected to exceed pre-pandemic levels.
