Jeremy Renner in ‘critical but stable condition’ after ‘weather related accident plowing snow’

Jeremy Renner is in “critical but stable” condition today after being injured while clearing snow on one of his industrial snowplows on his ranch between Reno and Lake Tahoe.

The 51-year-old Marvel star was airlifted to hospital on Sunday after police were called to her rural mansion in the Sierra Nevada mountains on the California-Nevada border.

Renner, a lover of heavy machinery, owns a series of snowplows that he uses to clear his long driveway, as well as the roads and paths in his area. The Hawkeye actor complained about heavy snowfall due to unprecedented winter storms hitting the United States.

His agent has not revealed how he managed to injure himself so badly, describing it as a “weather related accident while shoveling snow”, adding that the actor is receiving “excellent care” and that his family is at his bedside. He is “critical but stable,” the spokesman said.

On Sunday morning, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office near Reno was called to Mr. Renner’s ranch residence.

Public Information Officer Kristin Vietti said, “Upon arrival, officers coordinated with the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for the medical transport of Jeremy Renner via care flight to a hospital in the local area”, adding that “Mr. Renner was the only party involved’ and the main accident investigation team is investigating the incident.

The accident came after about five feet of snow fell overnight between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day as a massive winter storm swept through the region again, claiming dozens of lives.

Renner tweeted about the heavy snowfall at his US ranch in December, writing: “Lake Tahoe snowfall is no joke.”

Fans have said they are praying for the two-time Academy Award nominee, best known for playing Avenger Hawkeye in the Marvel universe, Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy, and William Brandt in the Mission Impossible movies.

The actor, who plays Hawkeye and can be seen in the Avengers and Captain America movies, has owned a home on Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Mount Rose-Ski Tahoe in Washoe County for several years.

It came as dozens of people died across the United States amid blizzard conditions.

The Arctic blast brought strong winds and snow, trapping some residents inside their homes in snowdrifts and knocking out power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses.

The storm’s reach has been almost unprecedented, stretching from the Great Lakes near Canada to the Rio Grande River along the Mexican border.

In a video uploaded to his Instagram account last December, the actor could be seen enjoying driving his industrial-sized snowplow.

“I have so much respect for Mother Earth and Mother Nature… I hope to lose the fight, but I will always do my best,” he wrote.

Several other photos and videos posted on social media show him enjoying driving heavy machinery with everything from tracked snowplows to huge snowplows and other winter weather buggies.

In the past, Renner has also been outspoken about how he often spends time working with local fire departments, helping out their crews and even buying a spare fire truck.

‘I work with the fire departments up there and they are pretty awesome. They are teaching me and helping me, and I still have a few more hours to spend with them.’

A powerful storm has brought heavy rain and snow to much of California, causing traffic jams and major road closures as the state prepares to ring in a new year.

High in the Sierra Nevada, where Renner’s home sits, about 2 feet of snow fell on New Year’s Day, but as much as 5 feet was forecast.

The Sacramento agency released a 24-hour precipitation map showing a wide range of totals in the region, from less than an inch in some areas to more than 5 inches in the Sierra foothills.

The US National Weather Service in Sacramento had warned of dangerous driving conditions and posted photos on Twitter showing traffic on snow-covered mountain passes, where vehicles must have chains or four-wheel drive.

A so-called atmospheric river storm was carrying a long, broad column of moisture from the Pacific Ocean.

Near Lake Tahoe, dozens of drivers were rescued on New Year’s Eve along Interstate 80 after cars spun in the snow during the blizzard, the California Department of Transportation said. The key route into the mountains from the San Francisco Bay Area reopened early Sunday to chained passenger vehicles.

“Roads are extremely slippery so let’s all work together and slow down so we can keep I-80 open,” the California Highway Patrol said on Twitter. Several other highways, including State Route 50, have also reopened.

More than 4 feet of snow had accumulated high in the Sierra Nevada, and the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area said heavy, wet snow would cause long delays in opening the lifts. On Saturday, the resort reported numerous elevator closures, citing high winds, poor visibility and ice.

Flooding and rock slides also closed parts of the highways in Northern California.

It was the first of several storms expected to hit California over the next week.

Hannah Chandler-Cooley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento, said the current system is expected to be warmer and wetter, while next week’s storms will be cooler.

Renner is a two-time Oscar nominee, earning back-to-back nominations for The Hurt Locker and The Town.

Renner’s portrayal of a bomb disposal specialist in Iraq in 2008’s The Hurt Locker helped make him a household name.

2012’s The Avengers cemented him as part of Marvel’s larger storytelling ambitions, with his character appearing in several sequels and getting his own Disney+ series, Hawkeye.
