Paul Scholes was highly impressed by one Manchester United star’s performance against Sheriff FC and less flattering by another.
United won 3-0 at Old Trafford with goals from Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite not being on the scoring list, Scholes praised the performance of alexander garnachothat reminded him of a Ronaldo when he arrived at Old Trafford.
“He was exceptional, he had real quality,” Scholes said. bt sport.
“What I liked about him: He was direct, he ran towards defenders all the time. Tricks that worked a bit, he had it all, just missing a goal or an assist.
“This club loves artists. It was like a young Cristiano knocking down the ball. He was impressed. Sometimes wingers, sometimes they can’t go down the left wing, but he could do both and that’s what makes you so unpredictable.
“I think his performance was exciting for an 18-year-old, but he was one who was looking to the future.”
Asked if Garnacho could soon become a regular at Erik ten Hag, Scholes said that was not out of the question.
“It’s hard to say, he’s very young, he’s played against an opponent who isn’t the strongest,” Scholes added.
“He is definitely an option for the coach, he is someone to think about. He could come in during the last 20-30 minutes and he could be more dangerous because he can overtake people on both sides.
“There aren’t many wingers who can do that these days. But when you come to the team, you have to take your chances as a young player and I don’t think it hurts his case.”
The United legend’s thoughts on Antony were less flattering, as he described the £85m summer signing as “a clown” after his some nonsense “skill” before they hooked him up at halftime.
Scholes said, “I’m not even sure if it’s skill, am I? We could [talking to Owen Hargreaves] Do that?
“Is that your trademark? I think you need a better one. You need to find a more entertaining way.
“I don’t think this country likes to see that. Any country, even Brazil? Brazil doesn’t want to see that, right? Ajax in Holland, do you want to see that?
“I like to see skill, but I don’t think it’s skill or entertainment. That’s just a clown, right?
