Socceroo’s young Garang Kuol watches as new club Newcastle United take on Arsenal

Socceroo youngster Garang Kuol wastes no time getting acquainted with his new club Newcastle as he watches the Premier League giants take on Arsenal shortly after landing in the UK.

  • Garang Kuol was at the Emirates Stadium watching Newcastle play Arsenal
  • The 18-year-old former A-League striker has signed a multi-year deal with the Magpies.
  • After shining at the Socceroos World Cup, he was granted a British work permit

Garang Kuol’s elite football journey at club level has begun watching his top division Newcastle United teammates take on Arsenal in the English Premier League.

Although Tuesday night’s clash at the Emirates Stadium ended goalless, the Socceroos’ 18-year-old would have been quick to recognize the level required to succeed abroad.

The teenager took to Instagram to reveal that he was in London as the Gunners extended their lead to eight points over Manchester City in the EPL.

Kuol flew from Australia buoyed by the news that he had won a coveted UK work permit, which will likely mean he won’t need to be loaned to countries like Portugal or France.

With Eddie Howe’s side third after 18 games and losing just once this season, the former Central Coast Mariners striker faces a tough task to break straight into the first team.

Newcastle defeated leaders Arsenal to a 0-0 draw to ensure they remain third in the EPL rankings

The work permit sees Kuol on loan to England, with a Championship (second division) club as his likely destination.

His amazing World Cup performances in Qatar for Australia got Kuol’s paperwork sanctioned and where he will end up next is the question many soccer fans want to know.

Kuol signed a multi-year deal with the Magpies in September and Howe recently announced the striker would be sent from St James’ Park to speed up his development.

“It’s a possibility (Garang could train with us),” he told reporters.

“But I think for player development you have to go and play.

“If possible, let it be at a very good level, with a good club and a good coach.

“It’s not a decision that has been made at this time, so we need to review all of our options.”

Socceroos sensation Garang Kuol signed for EPL giants Newcastle in September last year.

Garang Kuol, 18, has agreed a multi-year contract with Newcastle United for a fee of US$525,000

Mariners manager Nick Montgomery, who played in the EPL with Sheffield United at the height of his career, is confident the rising youngster will shine in Europe.

“He (Kuol) is just a kid, he’s started three games for us and it’s going to be a physical and typographical shock for him when he gets there,” Montgomery told FTBL.

“Hopefully they (Newcastle) find a club that suits them, I’m sure they will. He just has to keep playing and do a lot of football.

“Time will tell for Garang – he has all the potential and now ultimately it’s up to him what happens next. He is at a great club and that is crucial for his development.

Kuol played his youth soccer for the Goulburn Valley Suns in Victoria before being signed by the Mariners in January 2021.

Socceroos boss Graham Arnold branded Kuol a “puncher” for his 26-man Middle East side and the electric youngster saw a last-minute shot against Argentina that would have sent the round of 16 to extra time.

Lionel Messi and his teammates lifted the World Cup trophy weeks later.
