Spirit Airlines has been hit by a system-wide computer outage as it warns passengers to expect long lines with 84% of departures being delayed.
The ultra-low-cost airline warned travelers about the technical problems via Twitter, as some expressed frustration at not being able to check in, while others reported being stuck on planes for hours without any sign of takeoff.
According to flight tracking site Pulse by Anuvu, less than 16% of Spirit flights were leaving on time as of 11:15 a.m. Thursday.
Hundreds of flights are likely to be affected as Spirit operates more than 700 a day.

In a statement, the airline said: “We are currently experiencing a technical issue.
‘Spirit.com, the Spirit Airlines app and our airport kiosks are not available at this time.
“We anticipate longer than usual lines at the airport, so plan to arrive early.”
Angry customers have complained about missing their planes after failing to check in, while others said they have been waiting for takeoff for more than two hours.
One passenger wrote on Twitter: ‘Absolutely 0 information at the airport. Shockingly horrible customer service.
Another complained that his plane had been evacuated due to system outage, adding that the Spirit app had been down for ‘5 hours’.
Meanwhile, a Twitter user named DJ Frankie B posted a scene from an airport showing passengers waiting, saying, “I have a feeling we’re about to be here for a while.”
The passenger said “your flight was supposed to leave an hour ago,” adding, “I haven’t seen a Spirit plane take off… sorry to mislead you, Delta.”
