Thane: two arrested for pushing women into the meat trade

Two people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, have been arrested for allegedly pushing women into the meat trade. Thane district of Maharashtrapolice said Tuesday.

A woman pushed into the meat trade was rescued, they said.

Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police were searching for two other people who were also involved in the meat trading business, according to an official statement.

The release said the defendant would contact customers after reviewing advertisements on the internet and social media platforms.

Following a tip, police set up Mira Road on Sunday with the help of a decoy customer and arrested a rickshaw driver, Suresh Yadav, who arrived at the scene along with a woman, he said.

After his interrogation, the police caught the second accused, Chotu Indo Ram (23), from Mumbai, the statement said.

All four defendants have been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, it added.
