Authorities on the holiday island of Fuerteventura say they have found the body of a British tourist who went missing on Wednesday.
Anne Baillie’s son, Alex, asked locals and tourists for help in a plea on social media two days after she was last seen at the Riu Palace Tres Islas hotel on the volcanic Canary Island and some personal belongings, including his mobile phone, were found on a nearby beach.
It is understood that he was staying at the hotel on the island, the second largest in the Canary Islands, with his family.
Liverpool-based Alex wrote alongside a photo of his 73-year-old mum: ‘This is my mum Anne Baillie.
‘She has been reported missing since around 9:30am on Wednesday June 7th.

The body of Anne Baillie, 73 (pictured), who was last seen at the Hotel Riu Palace Tres Islas on Wednesday, has been found.

Local authorities said the Briton’s body had been located in the Dunas de Corralejo Natural Park (in the photo) in the municipality of La Oliva.
‘Last seen at the RIU Palace Tres Islas with personal effects found on the beach directly behind the RIU Oliva Hotel.
Please share and contact the police if you have seen her in the area. Thank you.’
Local reports from the time she disappeared said that she had been out for her usual morning walk.
Yesterday, an emergency services organization run by the local council confirmed that her body had been found.
The discovery is understood to have been made late on Saturday.
Fuerteventura Emergencies has said in a statement: ‘The lifeless body of the English tourist last seen on June 7 has been located in the Dunas de Corralejo Natural Park in the municipality of La Oliva.
“Different emergency and security organizations had been involved in the search.”
Anne’s relatives reportedly raised the alarm after she failed to return to her hotel.
Volunteer hotel workers are said to have been among those who participated in the search.

It was understood that Anne had stayed at the Hotel Riu Palace Tres Islas (pictured) on the island, the second largest of the Canary Islands, with her family.
An autopsy will be carried out and the results will be sent to a local investigative court instead of being immediately made public, as is normal in Spain.
There have been no reports that authorities are treating his death as suspicious at this time.
A Fuerteventura-based British expat, updating locals on the news that Anne had been found dead, wrote on Facebook yesterday: ‘Unfortunately Anne’s body was discovered last night in the dunes.
‘Thank you to everyone who helped find and shared your child’s post.
‘Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to his family and friends at this terribly difficult time.
“I know your son felt there was an amazing community on the island and that means a lot to him.”
The area where Anne’s body was discovered is located in the northeast of Fuerteventura in a desert landscape full of contrasts bordering the blue ocean.
The sand dunes offer spectacular views of the island of Lobos and Lanzarote.
